By designing our gardens with plants native to California, and other species native to Mediterranean climates we can reduce the consumption of irrigation water dramatically . By using natives in particular, we create habitats for our wildlife, bring bird song to our gardens and give ourselves gardens with reduced maintenance. This project won the 2011 International APLD design award in planting design.
